Director Statement

The world is full of bad news, and I wanted to face the bad news while smiling. PARKING SPOT is an absurdist martial-arts comedy that is the sugar to make the medicine go down of the perils of an overpopulated globe choked by dependence upon automobiles that can’t all fit in the space we need.
EVERYONE knows the dread of not being able to find a parking spot, or how crazy people can be with road rage. I was inspired to exacerbate that situation to the point of a matter of life and death, exploring the paradox of how everyone seems to become monsters until they step out of their metal box with wheels. But what if the rage continued afterward?
At a quick glance, PARKING SPOT is very bright and cheery simple fun. It is a manic adrenaline rush in the moment, and in retrospect the strange circumstance begins to reveal itself. The ultimate resolution of PARKING SPOT is that everyone loses, torn in contradiction and ruin. Yet, the tone is cheery and upbeat, and it leaves you with a laugh and smile.
